B i o g r a p h y
Ben Cantrell has been a performer, adjudicator, and clinician in the Appalachian region for nearly 20 years. He has performed with numerous ensembles across the country, as well as in multi-city tours in Spain and China. Some of his more notable performances have been for the VA/DC Day of Percussion, North Carolina Day of Percussion, and the Jazz Educator Network Conference. Recently, he has performed for Barter Theatre (Abingdon, VA), the Sacred Winds ensemble (Pikeville, KY), and the Johnson City Orchestra (Johnson City, TN).
In the summer of 2017, Ben moved to Greensboro, North Carolina to begin work towards a DMA in Percussion Performance at UNCG. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morehead State University and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from Radford University.
Currently, he's the percussion instructor for Winston-Salem State University, Livingstone College, and drumline instructor for Elon University.
Mr. Cantrell is proud to be an educational artist for Mapex/Majestic Percussion & Innovative Percussion. He is on the educator networks for Black Swamp Percussion & Evans Drumheads, and is on the Health & Wellness Committee for the Percussive Arts Society.
